ABOUT KAMEA

I am Kamea Pino of the Colville Tribe and Santa Ana Pueblo. I spend a lot of time with me and my papas horse, Pawnee. I enjoy horseback riding. I am Fancy Shawl dancer and have competed and placed at many Powwows. Finally, I enjoy school. My favorite subject is math. I’m not sure what career I want to pursue, but I am confident I have the work ethic to succeed at anything I put my heart into.

Basketball has always been my passion! I started playing in a tiny tots division with YMCA. In fourth grade I earned a spot on New Mexico’s premier elite girls basketball organization, New Mexico Select. My coach was Greg Brown, former point guard for the University of New Mexico Lobos and Frances Pomeroy Naismith award recipient. Under the leadership of Coach Brown our team traveled throughout New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, California, Nevada, and Oklahoma competing in national AAU and MAYB tournaments. We worked hard and earned many championships. I also played for Team New Mexico in the North American Indigenous Games. We competed with Tribes throughout the nation and Our team earned the Gold Medal for Girls 14U Basketball. I moved to WA state as I was transitioning into high school. I enrolled at Squalicum High School and earned a spot on the Varsity basketball team as a freshman last year. This summer I stayed active playing in many Native tournaments, Hoopfest, Lake Roosevelt High School Basketball, and Squalicum basketball events. I love playing ball and hope to do it at a collegiate level someday. I am excited to be a part of Hoopstars and being around girls who love playing and working as hard as I do.
